The beer got its name in honor of the Tongerlo Abbey, which was built in 1130.
It is located in the city of Westerlo (Antwerp). Originally unremarkable abbey
by the 16th century it became one of the most influential and became the center of education. Today, tourists from all over the world tend to visit the Tongerlo Abbey.
The beer for the Tongerlo Abbey is honored to be produced by the Haacht Brewery, one of the
18 licensed abbey breweries.
